How magic works
There are 2 base classes that use magic. Clerics and Mages. Second Tier guilds use it as well. Rangers, Druids, Healers, and Wizards. Everyone's magic is based on mana. Certain spells cost a certain amount. You regain you're mana back at 1 mana point every 4 seconds. That is, without enhancers or mana potions. The amount of mana you have depends greatly on your intelligence if you're a mage or wizard, and greatly on your wisdom for clerics and healers.

Paladins, Rangers, and Druids also learn spells. Upon joining the Ranger guild you will learn entangle.Upon joining the Druid guild you will retain the abilities you had as either a monk or a cleric, and you will learn Entangle. Paladins retain their abilities as either a cleric or fighter, and gain a few more abilites. Paladins don't necessarily gain spells, however they gain abilities that can heal and protect as they advance through their guild.

Spells
Mages and Wizards work the same way. You receive spell points when you level, from there you can choose a spell you would like to learn from a list. There are different spells from different branches of magic. Aether, fire, earth, ice and wind. You can learn a spell from any branch that you wish, or you may continue you're mastery of a spell by learning more about a spell you already know. With a mastery of a spell comes a newer title, for example: Fire Mistress Jennika, Spark pupil Makayla, etc.
Clerics and Healers learn spells from their respective guild leaders upon advancing. When you first become a cleric you gain spells and continue to learn more as you progress in your guild. If you so choose to become a healer, you will gain spells upon joining the healers guild, however you will lose Bless and Inflict Light Wounds. If you so choose to become a Druid, you will retain the spells you learned as a Cleric, and you will gain Entangle. Within the next few weeks I hope to have a list of all the spells and at which level you learn them.
